WHEN PURCHASING ANY CAR, CARAVAN, OR BOAT, CARAVANSANDBOATS.CO.UK RECOMMEND IT IS WORTH CONSIDERING HAVING YOUR PRODUCT REGISTERED OR CHECKED BY HPI LTD FOR COMPLETE PEACE OF MIND. WHY REGISTER OR HAVE A HPI CHECK
Caravans
The CRiS Check
Buying a pre-owned caravan?
Then make sure you carry out a CRiS Check prior to concluding the deal. Don’t get caught buying a caravan with a hidden history or an altered identity. A CRiS Check will not only confirm the caravans true identity, but will also reassure you of the provenance of the caravan you desire and will reveal if the caravan is subject to an HP agreement, reported stolen or been recorded as an Insurance Write-Off. In addition CRiS will be able to confirm if the ‘seller’ is currently recorded with CRiS as the current keeper
Change of Keeper Notification
When you buy or sell your caravan it is important to ensure the new owner is properly registered as the keeper. The CVR2 Registration Document issued to the current keeper should be used to notify CRiS of any keeper change. Like the V5 document for your car,the CVR2 should be completed by both, seller and buyer and both parts sent to CRiS. There is a small fee for processing this change and it is normally the new registering keeper who would pay this.
Motorhome
Theft and fraud in the motorhome market has become an increasing problem. To combat this problem the UK Motorhome Industry and HPI joined forces to create MINDER, a vehicle security and asset registration system to help protect against theft and fraud.
Motorhomes sold since 2001 carry a unique Motorhome Identification Number (MIN), a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and their Vehicle Registration Mark (VRM). This gives a greater all round level of security to owners and enables future buyers to identify the vehicle and check its history with confidence.
In addition, to ensure accurate identification, each motorhome has a 'hidden' electronic tag and visible etching of the MIN number, as well as a permanent warning sticker.
Boats
BOATMARK is the national register of marine craft operated by HPI on the behalf of the British Marine Federation (BMIF).
The increased level of boat ownership in the UK has led to a rise in the number of boat related thefts and fraud. BOATMARK records the boat details, based on the Hull Identification Number (HIN) given at manufacture. When a boat is purchased, the new owner can record themselves as the keeper. This means that the boat can be tracked at every stage, from factory to dealer and from the dealer to customer.
Before buying a boat contact BOATMARK to check whether the boat is free from finance and that the person selling the boat has the right to do so.
Cars
Outstanding finance?
Outstanding finance is the biggest risk facing used car buyers, with 24 out of every 100 cars checked by HPI still subject to a finance agreement. If the loan remains unpaid when you purchase the vehicle, you will not acquire title to it, nor will you be protected by the Sale of Goods Act (1979). Checking with HPI first will help you avoid this all too common problem.
Written-off?
Every year, nearly half a million cars involved in accidents are declared by insurers to have been too badly damaged to be repaired safely or economically - but some still find their way back on the road. On average, 4 out of every 100 vehicles we check has, at some stage, been written-off. Fortunately, with access to more car data than anyone else, an HPI used car history check will help to avoid putting yourself and your family at risk.
Stolen?
HPI identifies nearly 30 stolen vehicles every day. Many get sold as 'bargains' to unsuspecting buyers who then have to return the car to its rightful owner. Checking with HPI means you'll reduce the risk of losing your money, by finding out if the car has any hidden history.
Clocked?
Five out of every 100 checks against the HPI National Mileage Register reveal mileage discrepancies. HPI's National Mileage Register holds around 85 million readings - more than anyone else - helping you to avoid paying over the odds for a car that's potentially been clocked.
Cloned?
Many stolen vehicles go on to be cloned to disguise their identity so that they appear legitimate. A cloned car is one which has illegally taken the identity of a legitimately owned vehicle. This means there will be two or more cars with the same identity, including the same make, model, mark, vehicle registration, and identification number. Vehicles being sold for cash, below the market price or at places such as service stations may have been cloned.
